After Cyber Monday, comes Fair Trade Tuesday

After Back Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Fair Trade Claremont invites the community to participate in Fair Trade Tuesday by purchasing items from a local Fair Trade provider. The Claremont Village features 29 Fair Trade merchants, providing items that are made with ingredients that were traded legally and provide fair wages to the producers in developing countries.

Talented senior volunteers sought

The Claremont Senior Program is looking for highly talented community-orientated individuals interested in sharing their passion with the community. Instructors and group leaders are sought to provide low-cost and/or voluntary activities for the Spring Quarter, which begins March 2013. Proposals must be submitted by Friday, November 30, 2012. Get moving with Claremont walking group

Enjoy a healthy habit exploring the outdoors in a fun, motivating, and social way by joining Get Walking Claremont, a community group that conducts walks around the Claremont neighborhoods. Folk Music Center offers 'Uke Wednesdays' through November

Learn the Ukelele in 4 weeks with instructor Katy Stone at the Folk Music Center. Classes, geared toward adults and mature teens, run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through November.

No experience is necessary. Bring a uke or borrow one at the music center. The class is $80 and includes all 4 Wednesday sessions. For more information, or to sign up, call 624-2928. The Folk Music Center is located at 220 Yale Ave. in the Claremont Village.

Interfaith to host patriotic prayer circle

The Claremont Interfaith Council invites the public to join for an election eve gathering in celebration of the American Spirit. The event takes places Monday, November 5, at 7 p.m. in the plaza of the Claremont Depot.

This event, sponsored by the Claremont Interfaith Working Group for Middle East Peace, is not political in nature. Rather, it is a gathering of faith organizations preparing the community through prayer and devotions “for the awesome privilege and responsibility of voting the next day,” according to the press release.

Spooktacular takes over Claremont Village

Get your annual dose of thrills and chills at Claremont's annual Halloween Spooktacular on Wednesday, October 31, in the Claremont Village.

Enjoy trick-or-treating at Village businesses from 3 to 5 p.m.—sponsored by the city of Claremont and Village Marketing Group—as well as games, entertainment and face painting at the Depot from 4 to 7 p.m. Dress up your four-legged friend for the Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Contest at 5 p.m. and stick around for a wildlife presentation by The Animal Guys at 5:30 p.m. A costume contest for the kids will take place at 6:30 p.m.
