Weekend wellness workshops at Claremont's Hughes Center

The Claremont Community and Human Services
Department welcomes residents to partake in a selection of workshops offered at
the Alexander Hughes Center this Saturday, December 15.
From 10:30 a.m. to noon, a $20 Fun, Fit and
Fabulous workshop will help participants explore health and fitness values,
clarify a health and fitness vision and set realistic and attainable goals. From
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the department will offer a $50 Laugh and Learn
workshop focused on getting rid of anxious feelings in a social setting,
teaching fun exercises to enhance communication, strengthen leadership and
build confidence.
The Alexander Hughes Community Center is located at

Claremonter's Superstorm Sandy efforts continue
Thanks to
the community, Phebie’s Needle Art has received more than 200 scarves, hats and
knitted accessories for the store’s recent Yarn Relief campaign, sending
victims of superstorm Sandy a gift of warmth.
All items
were shipped to the east coast last week to provide warmth to those who
continue to struggle in the wake of the storm.
The Packing House yarn shop will continue to ship knitted donations to
the relief efforts. Those interested in donating an item may stop by Phebie’s
Needle Art, located on the second floor of the Claremont Packing House at 532

Chamber hours changing for the holidays
For those interested in stopping by the Chamber of Commerce with guests during the upcoming holiday season, take note of the modified hours.

After Cyber Monday, comes Fair Trade Tuesday
After Back Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Fair Trade Claremont invites the community to participate in Fair Trade Tuesday by purchasing items from a local Fair Trade provider. The Claremont Village features 29 Fair Trade merchants, providing items that are made with ingredients that were traded legally and provide fair wages to the producers in developing countries.

Talented senior volunteers sought
The Claremont
Senior Program is looking for highly talented community-orientated individuals
interested in sharing their passion with the community. Instructors and group
leaders are sought to provide low-cost and/or voluntary activities for the
Spring Quarter, which begins March 2013. Proposals must be submitted by Friday,

Get moving with Claremont walking group
Enjoy a healthy habit
exploring the outdoors in a fun, motivating, and social way by joining Get
Walking Claremont, a community group that conducts walks around the Claremont
neighborhoods. Walks are held on Tuesdays in the Claremont Village at 9 a.m.,
Thursdays at the Thompson Creek Trail at 8 a.m. and the second and fourth Saturdays
of every month at the Wilderness Park at 7:30 a.m. For more information and
