Claremont chef offers gourmet cooking class

Take a trip to the Yucatan courtesy of Claremont Chef Linda Heilpern, who will lead a class in authentic Mayan cuisine this evening, Wednesday, October 2  from 6:30 to 9 p.m. It all takes places within the comforts of her home at 131 Spring St
While vacationing in Merida a few years ago, Ms. Heilpern received instruction from Chef David Sterling of the Los Dos Cooking School in preparing these original Mayan dishes. She will now be sharing her experience with others. Dishes include ensalada xek (jicama, cucumber and orange salad),pescado pibil (whitefish baked in banana leaves with achiote paste), arroz rojo, (red rice) and for dessert, plantanos fritos (plantains with honey and cinnamon). Fruity sangria, made with (or without) red wine will complement the meal.
The class is $50 per person. A 10 percent discount will be applied for groups of 2 or more people attending together. To reserve a place in tonight's class, call 625-9194.
